Gun shots at Maoist leader's house, mother injured

Kathmandu: The mother of former minister and CPN (Moist Center) Barshaman Pun was injured after firing incident took place at a house in Baluwatar.

Pun’s mother Tirthamali was injured when Assistant Police Constable Prakash Pun fired shots from his pistol. She was shot in her left leg during New Year celebration at her house in Baluwatar.

Immediately after the incident that took place on Friday night, Tirthamali was taken to the Trauma Center and is now undergoing treatment.

Prakash, who was assigned to the protection of acting chief justice Hari Krishna Karki, fled the house after the incident. But he was later held, and police are investigating the incident.

Police suspect that Prakash opened fire unknowingly as he was drunk while the incident happened. As per the police, he had gone to Tirthamaya’s house to celebrate the New Year.

Tirthamaya lives with her sons David Pun and Pranis Pun.

David and Pranis are Barshaman's brothers. Prakash used to live in the same house sometimes ago, but now he is living in a separate room, the source said.
