Kathmandu: The Nepal Automobiles Association (NASA Nepal), in collaboration with the National Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Mobility–Nepal and Swatantrata Abhiyan Nepal, has submitted a recommendation paper on safe transportation to major political parties.

The document highlights key issues related to automobile policy, road safety, sustainable infrastructure, public transportation, health, consumer rights, and human rights.

As Nepal heads toward the House of Representatives election, scheduled for March 5, political parties have begun unveiling their election manifestos outlining commitments on a wide range of public issues. However, several critical public concerns have often remained sidelined in recent political discourse.

According to a press statement issued by NASA Nepal, against this backdrop, dozens of organizations working directly and indirectly in the fields of automobiles, sustainable roads, and safe transportation—along with victim families, experts, journalists, and campaigners—have jointly submitted a recommendation paper to major political parties.

The recommendation paper was presented to major political parties, including the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Nepal Communist Party (NCP), and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).

The same recommendations were also shared with other political parties such as the Ujyaalo Nepal Party, Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), and Loktantrik Samajwadi Party Nepal (LSP), representing Nepali experts and professional communities working in these sectors both at home and abroad.

According to the NASA Nepal Executive Director, Govinda Bhattarai, the recommendation paper emphasizes fundamental rights such as fear-free travel and the right to health, alongside the need for safe, well-managed, and regular public transportation.

It also calls for alignment with United Nations conventions, the implementation of pending laws and programs, and reforms including the enactment of the Road Safety Act, strengthening of the Road Safety Council, and facilitation of International Driving Permits—measures considered essential for building a modern, civilized, and prosperous Nepal.

Receiving the document, Nepali Congress Spokesperson Dev Raj Chalise, Rastriya Swatantra Party Vice-Chair D.P. Aryal, and CPN-UML Vice-Chair Ram Bahadur Thapa (Badal), among other leaders, acknowledged the significance of the issues raised. They expressed commitment to incorporating the recommendations into their respective party manifestos, citing their importance in shaping a safer and more sustainable future for the country.
