Kathmandu: Fair Price Shops have come into operation on Sunday. The shops have been successful in attracting customers.

The government has operated fair-price shops across the nation. Such shops aim to provide several goods at a reasonable price targeting the upcoming festivals.

Government-owned Food Management and Trading Company Ltd., Salt Trading as well as Dairy Development Corporation would be operating the shop till October 19 (Mangsir 3).

Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply said that the shops would run throughout the festive season to provide essential consumable products to the consumers in a concession amount. The government has targeted to make the products available simply, easily, and readily to control the price and maintain the quality in the market.

The government has been operating the fair price shop annually to stop the monopoly of the private sector in the consumer market. Similarly, the government has operated such shops in Kathmandu Valley and other 35 places.

The shops are being operated in Morang, Jhapa, Taplejung, Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Diktel, Bhojpur, Okhaldhunga, Khotang, Siraha, Janakpur, Parsa, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kaski, Tanahun, Gorkha, Manag, Mustang, Rupandehi, Banke, Dang, Bardiya, Rolpa, Surkhet, Gulmi, Dailekh, Dolpa, Kalikot, Jajarkot, Jumla, Mugu, Kailali, Dadeldhura, Bajura, Bajhang, Achham, Darchula, Mahendranagar, Rukum-East, and Rukum-West.

Spokesperson Sharmila Neupane said that the food management company was in the process of operating fair-price shops in 48 places of 42 districts. Consumers can get different types of rice, wheat, pulses, flour, and all types of oil at seven rupees cheaper every kilogram/liter as well as a 10 rupees discount for every kilo of beans, paper, chino, and kaguna in such shops.

The government had allocated a budget of 2 crore 32 lakhs 20 thousand rupees for the food management company to operate such shops.
