Bhaktapur: Farmers are busy plucking Globe Amaranth (Makhamali) flowers in Gundu.

Due to Adhik Mass, Dashain was celebrated 15-20 days late this year. But Globe Amaranth had already blossomed. Hence farmers started plucking the flowers to weave garlands of Globe flowers.

Farmers are busy plucking flowers every morning and weaving garlands in the afternoon. The garland of the Globe is taken as a symbol of long life. Sisters offer their Globe garland to their brothers praying for their long lives in Bhai Tika of Tihar.

The farmers of Gundu are selling the garland between Rs. 30 and Rs. 50, as per the size. Gundu is the pocket area for the Globe Amaranth of Kathmandu Valley.
