Kathmandu District Court permits to detain Mahara for 4 days


Kathmandu: Kathmandu District Court has permitted to detain CPN (Maoist Centre) Vice Chairperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara for 4 days.
Mahara was presented in the court after completing the statement-taking procedure at the Public Prosecutor’s Office on Monday. Under the single bench Judge Durga Prasad Khanal permitted the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) to keep Mahara in custody for 4 days. CIB had demanded 10 days of custody.
Likewise, Mahara was arrested, from Bhairahawas, in a gold smuggling scandal on Monday. He was brought to Kathmandu through Yeti Airlines.
Mahara, his son Rahul, Former Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun’s son Deepesh Pun, and foreign expert Jeevan Gurung were allegedly involved in the smuggling of 61 kg of gold, which was being smuggled in a brake shoe on 18 July 2022( Sharwan 2, 2079) and 9 kg of gold in (Electronic cigarette) Vape.
Similarly, the Gold Smuggling Investigation Commission recommended action to be taken against 21 people including Mahara on Thursday. Since that day police kept tight surveillance upon 21 people.
