President Paudel inaugurates Jagannath Chariot Procession

Kathmandu: President Ramchandra Paudel has inaugurated a religious chariot procession (Jagannath Rathyatra Mahotsav).

The event is organized by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Nepal on Sunday. During the inaugural ceremony held at the Kamaladi-based Nepal Academy, the President paid homage to Lord Jagannath. According to ISKCON's secretary Rupeshwor Gauravdas, the organisation hosts the festival every year on the second day of the bright fortnight of the month of Asadh.

The date commemorates the mythical event when the Gopinis, devotees of Shri Krishna, escorted him from Dwarka to Brindaban on a chariot. The festival, which has been observed in Nepal since 1977, also takes place in 165 countries worldwide today.
