Kathmandu: Hindu women start to apply mehndi on their palms, and wear green bangles and green potey at the beginning of the Shrawan month.

The month of Shrawan is regarded as the month of Lord Shiva in Hindu religion. Apart from worshiping and undergoing a fast for Lord Shiva, women also put mehndi on their palms in Shrawan. There is also a practice of married women wearing red, green, and yellow bangles in this month.

Hindu women believe that their husbands will have a longer life if they wear green and yellow potey and mehendi in Shrawan. There is also a belief that the darker complexion of the mehendi imprint on the palm reflects the deeper love from their husbands.

Likewise, the number of women buying bangles and potey in Chura-Potey Shops at Bishal Bazaar and Indrachowk. There are also people in the streets, who are applying mehendi in the hands of women.
