Kathmandu: With the Chaurchan festival around the corner, there is an increasing demand for bananas. It is the fruit offered to the Moon during the festival celebration. Most of the marketplaces are now selling bananas, which is an essential fruit in this festival.

However, there is no sufficient fruit. The Moon is worshipped on the occasion of the festival that falls on the chauthi of Shuklapaksya as per the lunar calendar. The major day is observed coming Friday.

The Chaurchan Festival is a significant cultural event in the Mithila community. The marketplaces are now thronged by farmers and traders to transact agricultural products in the wake of the approaching festival.

It is an opportunity for the banana farmers to sell their products and make an income. A farmer from Ram Nagar of Bhangaha-4, Satya Narayan Yadav, shared that he had earned Rs 200 thousand by selling the banana fruit for the festival. Yadav has cultivated bananas on 10 katas of land.

Meanwhile, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Mahottari district, said the transaction of 5 million rupees would be ensured with banana fruits during the festival. Even the unripe banana is sold on this occasion. As the unripe banana is on sale, the local authorities have been urged to adopt tight monitoring.
