Death of postnatal mother; Stressful situation at Karnali Province Hospital

Surkhet: The relatives have been protesting against the issue of childbirth at Karnali Province Hospital, Surkhet.

The relatives are outraged over the death of Sharmila Sunuwar (18 years old ) of Birendranagar Muncipality-6. The relatives said Sunuwar died due to the negligence of doctors during the delivery.

Sunuwar was taken to the Province Hospital after her labor pain began on Sunday. Sunuwar’s sister-in-law; Chandra Kali Sunuwar; said that the doctor was saying the condition was normal, but all of a sudden suddenly the health officials informed about Sunuwar’s demise at 4:00 a.m. on Monday.

Likewise, the relatives claimed that the police were called to the hospital, before breaking the news of Sunuwar. Binod Basnet, the hospital's Information Officer, said the newly-born infant didn't move and had already died.

‘The mother was suffering from fever and the delivery resulted in heavy bleeding,' said Basnet, 'the mother fainted due to heavy bleeding. Then, she was treated in the ICU and died during the treatment.'

The relatives of the deceased have been protesting at the hospital, whereas more than 100 Police have been mobilized. Surkhet Polie Chief SP Rupesh Khadka said that police have been mobilized, to prevent any possible incident.
