Kathmandu: Three individuals have been arrested in Dhanusha on charges of murdering a young woman.

Police arrested are 22-year-old Ram Lalit Khatwe Mandal, 20-year-old Gyanendra Das of Janaknandini Rural Municipality-3, and 24-year-old Ramesh Kumar Mandal of Shahidnagar Municipality-8.

On November 24 (Mangsir 8), the body of 20-year-old Rekha Kumari Mandal was discovered stuffed inside a sack in a canal located at the border of Janaknandini-4 and Kamala Municipality-2, Sarave.

According to Dhanusha Police spokesperson DSP Barun Bahadur Singh, the arrested Ram Lalit was the boyfriend of the deceased Rekha. Preliminary investigations revealed that Ram Lalit killed her with the help of his friends after a dispute over marriage.

It is said that Ram Lalit and Rekha were in a romantic relationship for about 4-5 years. Rekha wanted to marry Ram Lalit, but due to opposition from his family, she pressured him to elope and get married.

Ram Lalit, however, had applied for a job in the Nepal Army and insisted on getting married only after securing the job. The police investigation suggests that he killed Rekha because of the pressure she exerted to marry immediately.

Ram Lalit had called Rekha to meet him and sought the help of his friends Gyanendra and Ramesh. According to DSP Singh, the investigation found that Ram Lalit killed Rekha by slitting her throat with a blade after she arrived.
