US citizen held with foreign currencies

Kathmandu: Police have arrested a US citizen on the charge of attempting to smuggle out foreign currencies from Nepal.

She was apprehended on Saturday and is identified as Ni Yan and was about to fly to Malaysia on a flight of the Batik Air. She was arrested from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA)'s departure hold baggage area.

Police have confiscated US currencies of 12,748 US dollars, 249 Singapore dollars, 12,000 Indonesian Rupiah, 100 Malaysian Ringgit, 19 mobile phone sets from various companies, 28 SIM cards, and 122 memory cards.

Yan has been sent to the Police Circle, Gaushala for further investigation into the matter.
