Nepal Army celebrates Dog Tihar (Photos)

Kathmandu: Today is Kukur Tihar (Dog Tihar), a day dedicated to worshipping dogs. People celebrate by offering tika and garlands to dogs and feeding them delicious food. Dogs are known as loyal companions and best friends of humans. In Hinduism, dogs hold special cultural and religious significance.

According to Hindu mythology, dogs named Shyam and Sabal guard the gates of Yamraj, the Deity of Death. It is believed that feeding dogs on this day pleases them and helps clear the way to Yamalok (the land of the dead).
Similarly, the Nepal Police and Nepal Army also honored and worshipped their dog squads by organizing special events and games for the dogs.
The Nepal Army celebrated Dog Tihar at Bhairava Vahanam Gulm, Sanothimi, where the dogs showcased their skills before the puja (ritual worship).
