Kathmandu: The government has launched the first National Vitamin ‘A’ Campaign of the fiscal year 2025-26.

The campaign will be held on November 6 and 7.

Usually, this campaign is conducted every year in two phases — the first phase in the Nepali month of Kartik (on 2nd and 3rd) and the second phase in Baisakh (on 6th and 7th).

However, this year, due to Tihar and other festivals, the date for the first phase had to be rescheduled, according to the Family Welfare Division under the Department of Health Services.

According to the Division, around 2.7 million children under the age of five will be administered Vitamin ‘A’ during the two-day national campaign, and about 2.4 million children will receive deworming medicine.

Similarly, children above six months of age will be provided with “Bal Vita,” a nutrition-rich food supplement. In addition, children who have missed their regular immunizations will also be vaccinated during the campaign, the Division stated.

To reduce malnutrition and other health complications among children, the government has been conducting the National Vitamin 'A' Program since  1993. The deworming medicine distribution program, on the other hand, started in 1999 from some districts and this was later expanded nationwide by 2010.
