Kathmandu: The Nepal Automobile Association (NASA Nepal) has been nominated from the Asia-Pacific region for the 2025 President’s Awards presented by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA).

Among FIA’s 151 national sports federations, only six continental federations have been shortlisted for this prestigious award. FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem announced the results yesterday through the social media platform Instagram and congratulated NASA Nepal for being included in the list of outstanding federations.

NASA Nepal’s “Grassroots to Glory” campaign has significantly contributed to this prestigious success. According to a Press Release from NASA Nepal, the campaign launched with key indicators of achievements in motorsports, spanning from grassroots to continental levels, notable participation from women, youth, students, and the academic sector, a strong foundation-building at the basic level, and public engagement and recognition.

Each year, nominations are sought based on indicators such as projects conducted by member federations, successful events, special campaigns, achievements, and the overall activeness of the federation. After a detailed study and evaluation of these nominations, the best federations are selected at the continental level.

Racing against the odds: Nepali women steer their way into global motorsports

The “Grassroot to Glory” project is a major initiative under the concept “NASA Nepal: From Local to Global,” which was approved during the federation’s ninth general assembly. This achievement will be a proud moment for the entire Nepali sports community.

This year, Australia, Sri Lanka, and several other countries from the Asia-Pacific region submitted their nominations, and FIA had already published the preliminary list earlier.

The award will be presented at the FIA General Assembly to be held from December 9 to 12 in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, as officially informed to NASA Nepal by the awards team.

From the six outstanding federations of Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, South America, North America, and Europe shortlisted for the National Motorsports Achievement Award, the final overall winner has yet to be announced.

The FIA, established in 1904 in Paris, governs motorsports and automobile federations, manages and oversees all motorsports, including Formula One. The global governing body currently has 249 national federations affiliated with it, with NASA Nepal being a full member since 2012.

Despite weak infrastructure, limited resources, and a lack of technology, NASA Nepal’s inclusion among the top federations in the Asia-Pacific region is the result of the continuous hard work and commitment of the federation’s officials, technical teams, and athletes. This recognition has inspired the federation to move ahead even more actively and effectively in the days to come.
