Kathmandu: India has provided the first tranche of election-related assistance to Nepal.

Rakesh Pandey, Chargé d’affaires at the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, handed over more than 60 double-cab pickup vehicles and other supplies to Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal on Tuesday. The assistance was provided at the request of the Government of Nepal as part of preparations for the upcoming elections. Nepal is holding parliamentary polls on March 5.

“The ongoing cooperation and support from the Indian side is not only an apt reflection of the multi-faceted and multi-sectoral development partnership between the two countries, but also symbolises the deep mutual trust and friendship between the people of India and Nepal,” the embassy said. It added that Home Minister Aryal thanked the Government and people of India for the vehicles and supplies.
