Four of single family dead in Okhaldhunga landslide


Kathmandu: Four members of a family died after a landslide buried their house following a heavy rainfall in Okhaldhunga district last night.
Rana Bahadur Gurung, 36, his 29-year-old spouse Shiva Maya, 10-year-old son Dinesh and 18-month-old daughter Kabita died after the house collapsed in the landslide at Bilandu village in Champadevi Rural Municipality-8, Police Inspector Devendra Das confirmed.
It is said that police are trying to recover the dead body of 10-year-old Dinesh Gurung, son of Rana Bahadur. The landslide has also damaged the houses of local Bal Bahadur Gurung and Jar Sigh Gurung.
Khadga Bahadur Raut, the chairperson of ward-8, confirmed that nearly two dozens cattle were swept away in the landslide that occurred at 11pm last night.
Likewise, federal lawmaker Ramhari Khatiwada said that 4 people lost their lives, cattle and house were damaged, adding local-level rescue operation is underway in the landslide-affected area.
