Kathmandu: Finland will be getting membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

The western military alliance secretary-general announced that Finland will be the 31st member of NATO on Tuesday.

Finland started the process of gaining membership just after the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

But, Turkey had delayed its application. Previously, Turkey had complained that Finland had been supporting 'terrorists'.

Sweden applied for membership last May. Turkey had also claimed Sweden supported terrorists. This has been a barrier for Sweden to gain membership.

NATO grants membership only after the 100 percent support of all the members.

Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the Finish flag will be raised in the NATO headquarters for the first time.

He emphasized that the membership will help Finland and Nordic security. This membership will be beneficial for the safety of Finland.

NATO was founded in 1949 in order to protect the people and terror of the member countries.
