Biratngar: The riot in Jhapa prison has been controlled.

Chief District Officer Shivaram Pokharel said that the fire was controlled after an hour. Superintendent Durgaraj Regmi, District Police Office, said that the dissatisfied group of prisoners put on fire while transferring prisoner Manoj Lawati from Chandragiri to Jhumka prison.

The dissatisfied group of prisoners started sloganeering and throwing stones just after the administrative team was taking Lawati to Jhumka at 3 pm. The thick smoke was seen after the prison was put on fire.

The fire brigade team had reached the prison from Mechinagar, Bhadrapur, and Birtamod. Even police were not permitted to enter the jail in an atmosphere full of riots. No casualties were reported in the incident.
