Kathmandu: Three hundred-year-old Devi dance has been performed in Gokarneshwor. The dance is performed on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami every year. The tradition started during the reign of King Mandev.
Devi dance, which started in the 5th century, continued till 2038 B.S. However, the dance performance was stopped. There were no dancers and resources to perform this dance for 37 years. It was in 2074 B.S., that the local youths collaborated to resume the dance and save the culture.
The dance, which started on Vijaya Dashami, will be performed on various festivals, till the month of Magh.
