Kathmandu: Fulpati was brought to the Dashain Ghar of Hanumandhoka Durbar on Monday.
There is a ritual of bringing Fulpati from Gorkha to Dashain Ghar on the day of Saptami.
Every year, six priests of the Magar community, including the priest of Dashain Ghar, bring the Fulpati from Gorkha to Jiwanpur, Dhading. And six other priests from the Brahmin community from Kathmandu bring the Fulpati from Jiwanpur to Jamal.
There is a ritual of high-ranking civil service officials, platoons of Guruju Paltan, musicians, and cultural dancers bringing the Fulpati from Jamal to Hanumandhoka amid fanfare, in the lead up to Vijaya Dashami, the 10th day of Dashain, which begins with the marking of Ghatasthapana.
Sugarcane stems, turmeric, banana stalk, paddy plant, Belpatra (leaves of wood apple), and Ashok flower are taken as auspicious symbols and brought in the form of Fulpati. It is also known as Nawapatrika, and is taken as a symbol of the Nine Goddesses.
