CPN (UML) candidates seek votes at Bhrikutimandap (Photos)

Kathmandu: Voting, as part of the ongoing 11th National General Convention of the CPN (UML), is scheduled for today.

According to Dr. Vijay Subba, Chairperson of the party’s Central Election Commission, voting has been scheduled for this afternoon. Candidates are currently seeking votes from CPN (UML) delegates at the polling venue, Bhrikutimandap.

For the new leadership, the nomination of candidates was completed on the night of December 15, and the Election Commission has also published the final list of candidates.

According to Subba, elections are being held for a total of 351 positions: 301 central committee members, 25 members of the Accounting Commission, and 25 members of the Disciplinary Commission.

This time, the UML has planned to conduct the election using electronic voting machines (EVMs). Voting has been arranged through 80 electronic voting machines.

Laxman Rimal, Director of Ram Laxman Innovation Pvt. Ltd., stated that candidate names are currently being entered into the electronic voting machines. “We are trying to enter the names into the machines within the scheduled time and submit them to the Election Commission,” said Director Rimal, “However, due to the large number of candidates, it may take some time, so voting may start a little later.”

For the position of Chairperson, the incumbent KP Sharma Oli is competing against Senior Vice-Chairperson Ishwar Pokharel. Shankar Pokharel and Surendra Pandey are contesting the position of General Secretary.

A total of 2,263 delegates to the General Convention will cast their votes.
