Kathmandu: Following the upheaval in power triggered by the Gen Z movement, the Nepal Army has taken over the country’s security.

On Tuesday, demonstrators seized and set fire to all three branches of the state — the executive headquarters at Singha Durbar, the judiciary at the Supreme Court, and the legislature at the Parliament building.

Later in the day, Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli resigned. From Tuesday night, the army assumed “security responsibilities.”

By early Wednesday morning, soldiers were heavily deployed across the capital.

The main roads of Kathmandu are deserted. At every intersection, the army is checking passersby. The sites that were set on fire have been reduced to ruins.
