Nepal defeats Two-Time World Champions West Indies

Kathmandu: Nepal defeated the West Indies in the opening match of the Unity Cup T20 Cricket Tournament.

Nepal beat the two-time T20 World Cup champions, West Indies, by 19 runs. The West Indies had won the World Cup in 2012 and 2016.

On Saturday, at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Dubai, Nepal secured a historic victory by defeating the West Indies.

Chasing a target of 149 runs set by Nepal, the West Indies played the full quota of overs but were restricted to 129 runs, losing 9 wickets.

For Nepal, Kushal Bhurtel took two wickets, while captain Rohit Kumar Paudel, Karan KC, Dipendra Singh Airee, Nandan Yadav, and Lalit Rajbanshi claimed one wicket each.

Apart from Navin Bidaisee, who scored 22 runs, no West Indies batsman could make a notable contribution.

Earlier, losing the toss and batting first, Nepal scored 148 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted overs.

For Nepal, captain Rohit Kumar Paudel made 38 runs, while Kushal Malla added 30 runs with two fours and two sixes.

Gulshan Jha hit two sixes off 16 balls but was dismissed for 22 runs. Dipendra Singh Airee scored 17 runs, while Sandeep Jora added 9 runs.

For the West Indies, Jason Holder took four wickets, including three in a single over. Navin Bidaisee claimed three wickets, while captain Akeal Hosein picked up one.

Nepal will play its second match on September 29 and its third on September 30.

After this series, the Nepali team is scheduled to travel to Oman to participate in the ICC T20 World Cup Asia and East Asia-Pacific Qualifiers. Nepal is playing against the West Indies as preparation for that tournament.
